Day wise Travel Itinerary
Day 1 : ARRIVE VARANASI
Arrive Delhi, Upon arrival You will be met and assisted by our company representative at the Air Port. Transfer to the Hotel for Check in. The same ritual has been taking place since time immemorial. A truly special experience. This day visit the Holy site of Sarnath. Visit the Dhamekh Stupa which is one of the prominent Buddhist structures in India. Dhamek Stupa was constructed by the great Mauryan King, Ashoka. Also visit Ashoka Pillar and Sarnath Museum. Evening visit the River Ganges to witness the Aarti ceremony. Overnight stay at hotel in Varanasi.
Day 2 : VARANASI – BODHGAYA (Approx 260 Km; 6 hrs drive )
After breakfast drive to Bodhgaya. Arrive Bodhgaya by afternoon. After check in Hotel take a visit of Bodhgaya. visit of the Mahabodhi Temple & the Holy Bodhi tree where Lord Buddha got enlightenment. Also visit various temples from different countries in the region and also the museum which houses antiquities excavated in and around Bodhgaya. Also visit some other temples from different countries in the region. The other attractions to visit are Sujata Village, Bakror Stupa and Kagyu Monastery.Foot steps Of Buddha, Bodhgaya is the place where 2500 years ago in the 6th century BC, Siddhartha attained enlightenment under a banyan tree to become the Buddha. Bodhgaya is also the Spiritual home of the Buddhists. The Mahabodhi temple is located at the place of Lord Buddha’s enlightenment. It is believed to be the same temple which Xuanzang (also known as Hieuen Tsang) visited in 7th Century. The temple has been restored and rebuilt over the centuries. A large circular stone with the Buddha’s footprints is kept in a small shrine on the left. In the same temple complex is the Bodhi Tree, Which is said to be the descendent of the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment.
Day 3 : BODHGAYA – RAJGIR – NALANDA – PATNA (Approx 210 Km. 6 hrs drive)
Today Morning by 7.30 AM Drive to Patna. En route visit Rajgir and Nalanada. Rajgir was the capital of the Magadha Empire. In the rock cut caves here the Buddha spent many rainy seasons, meditating and preaching. The teachings of the Buddha were penned down at Rajgir and it was also the venue for the first Buddhist council. Visit the – Gridhkuta (Vulture’s peak) – a hill on which Buddha meditated. Bimbisara’s prison – King Bimbisara was imprisoned here by his son Ajatsatru. Also visit Venuvan Vihara – a bamboo garden of King Bimbisar which he gifted to Lord Buddha. Just 15 Kms away from Rajgir we arrive Nalanda University which is the location of the ancient Buddhist University built in 5th Century AD. This great seat of learning flourished until 12th Century AD . Arrive Late evening at Patna. Overnight at Hotel in Patna.
Day 4 : PATNA – VAISHALI – KUSHINAGAR ( 350 kms / Approx 7 hrs drive )
This day breakfast at Hotel and check out by 6.30 AM. In one and half hour you are in Vaishali. Vaishali is the holy site where Buddha is believed to have preached his last sermon and announced his impending Nirvana.. A life size-pillar beside a brick stupa at Vaishali commemorates Buddha’s last sermon. The lion faces north, the direction Buddha took on his last voyage. At Vaishali is the shaded stupa which is supposed to have housed the casket relic with the ashes of Buddha. This was also the place where the 2 Buddhist council was held after 100 years of Buddha’s Nirvana. Continue drive to Kushinagar. Arrive Kushinagar in evening. Overnight at Hotel in Kushinagar.
Day 5 : KUSHINAGAR – LUMBINI (210 kms / 6 hrs)
Kushinagar is the place where Buddha chose for his Mahaparnirwana, or final exit from this earth. After breakfast by 8 AM visit the two important places of Kushinagar – One is where The Buddha attended Nirvana (or passed away), The Other place is where he was cremated. The Mahaparnirwana stupa is surrounded by ruins of ancient monasteries. The Rambhar Stupa that marks Buddha’s cremation ground. Also visit the temple with the beautiful statue of the reclining Buddha among other temples. Later drive to Lumbini. Arrive Lumbini by evening and overnight at Hotel in Lumbini,
Day 6 : LUMBINI – SRAVASTI ( Approx 6 hrs drive )
Today post breakfast by 8 AM check-out from Hotel and visit Maya Devi Temples and the various temples of different nations at Lumbini. Explore the Lumbini Garden. Later Proceed to Sravasti. Arrive Sravasti . Visit Sahet and Mahet and other stuptas in Sravasti. Sravasti has been known as ancient city and its mention has appeared in the legendry Indian epics of Ramayana & Mahabharata. This city was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Kosala and has the honour for sheltering Buddha for 24 rainy seasons in the Jetavana Gardens. Of the ancient Sravasti the city walls are still standing. Within these, the remains of: Angulimala’s stupa and Anathapindika’s stupa, can be visited. Other stupas to be visited are where the Twin Miracle took place. The site of Jetavana monastery is the main pilgrim destination of Sravasti. Buddhist monks normally do the meditation and chanting at the Gandhakuti (Buddha’s hut) and the Ananda Bodhi tree. This tree is the Offspring of the original Bodhi Tree, planted by Buddha’s main disciple Anand. and overnight at Hotel in Shravasti.
Day 7 : SRAVASTI – LUCKNOW – DEPARTURE ( Approx 5 hrs drive )
By 9 AM drive to Lucknow to the airport to board flight For onward destination
